WORK EXPERIENCE

Johnson Controls

May 2018 to October 2025
Senior UX Designer

Drove the research, design, and delivery of user experiences for over 20 complex, enterprise applications. Enhanced cross-functional collaboration of teams to synthesize ambiguous requirements, achieve consensus, and define core business objectives.

  • Led UX research and design for a safety-critical touchscreen interface controlling industrial fire pump systems. Conducted user interviews with specialized firefighting teams to synthesize human-factor insights and technical constraints—guiding a unified design that improved safety, efficiency, and field usability.
  • Designed and executed a research plan for a sales enablement platform which lacked cohesion and data-driven strategy. Planned and conducted 40+ in-depth user interviews across 4 cities to align stakeholders and provide prioritized, data-backed recommendations that served as the foundation for future design planning.
  • Spearheaded the redesign of an outdated fire warning system for commercial buildings. The final visual designs resolved issues related to inaccessible design, ambiguous information architecture, and unclear user flows by employing user interviews, tree testing, and A/B testing across both desktop and mobile while adhering to strict regulatory requirements.
  • Solved the challenge of balancing indoor air quality (IAQ) with energy spend for large commercial buildings by leveraging user interviews and cross-functional brainstorming with subject matter experts, resulting in an interface that aggregated complex air control data and the intelligence operators needed to manage this balance.
  • Mentored junior team members through 5 separate research and design efforts, enhancing their skills to become more effective team members.
  • Awarded multiple patents for design innovations.
  • Created and facilitated an AI discussion group for colleagues to share knowledge gained through projects or research.
Laughlin-Constable

January 2015 to May 2018
UX Designer

Drove UX research and design within a fast-paced agency environment, designing and validating end-to-end solutions for B2B and B2C clients across multiple industries. Successfully collaborated with internal and external stakeholders to synthesize requirements and articulate design rationale, fostering early consensus on core project goals.

  • Redesigned a major Health Association website experiencing problems with user frustration with content discoverability using insights from user interviews and secondary research, resulting in a new information architecture and multi-level page design that significantly improved users’ ability to locate desired, relevant information.
  • Developed and implemented 5 data-backed personas for a major financial institution by leveraging workshops, interviews, and secondary research. These personas were used to guide future digital design and marketing initiatives across the organization.
  • Directed the redesign of a major non-profit’s website for aviation enthusiasts, addressing unmet user needs due to years of mismanaged content. Created a current and future-state site map and conducted 10+ deep-dive interviews to inform a new information architecture, resulting in a website that reorganized the content around the highest-priority user needs.
  • Articulated research insights and design rationale to internal and external stakeholders, fostering early consensus and driving design decisions that directly aligned with core client and project goals.
  • Researched emerging technologies to inform innovative solutions and drive value through regular brainstorming and competitive analysis.
